Benue State governor Hyacinth Alia has ordered security agencies in the state to commence full implementation of the state’s Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law (2017), to tackle the return of conflicts allegedly pepertrated by suspected herdsmen. There is brewing tension at the Benue State University, (BSU) Makurdi following the demand by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for the sack of the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Tor Iorapuu. Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has approved the construction of a 16-kilometre road to end a 46-year-old land dispute involving the Nigerian Air Force Tactical Air Command and its host communities in Makurdi, the State’s capital. The decision was reached after a meeting attended by the Governor and a delegation from the Air Force, and representatives of Ugondo and Mbaivur communities to discuss ways to resolve the lingering land dispute.
