Governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday hailed President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms as a path to brighter prospects, while pressing their party to embrace unity and discipline ahead of future elections.

Speaking at the party’s eighth national convention, Governor Hope Uzodimma, of Imo State and chairman of the APC Progressives Governors Forum, described President Tinubu’s agenda as a model of statesmanship.

“The reform logic is stronger,” Uzodimma said on behalf of his colleagues.

“What leadership requires is not merely the ability to manage the present, but the wisdom to prepare the future.”

The Governors pledged alignment with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, vowing to partner with the federal government on economic opportunities, infrastructure, security, youth and women’s empowerment, and social protections.

Governor Uzodimma emphasized that the APC must remain “broad enough to accommodate diversity, disciplined enough to protect its values, and visionary enough to lead Nigeria through a changing world.”

AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Governor of Kwara State and chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, re-emphasizes the call for cohesion after observing a minute of silence.

“Political parties endure not just because they win elections, but because they build trust, manage differences, and continue to offer direction in times of change,” he said.

AbdulRazaq also praised President Tinubu’s “courage in taking tough but necessary decisions,” citing tax reforms adopted by state assemblies, enhanced federal resources, and initiatives like the new Ministry of Livestock, agro-climatic resilience projects, and health programs including a $5.1 billion memorandum of understanding with the United States.

He also noted  state-level investments in agriculture, revenue systems, and security coordination with the national security adviser.

The convention, attended by 31 Governors, party leaders, and 8,453 delegates, is set to ratify a 25-member National Working Committee.

President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, and other top officials were present.
