The Federal Government has released ₦38.93 billion to 166 public tertiary institutions, including universities, polytechnics and colleges of education across the country, to improve infrastructure, teaching and research facilities in the higher-education sector.
The funds, released under the Needs Assessment Revitalisation Fund (NARF), will go to 79 universities, 46 polytechnics and 41 colleges of education.
In a statement released on Sunday in Abuja, the Head of Media at the Federal Ministry of Finance, Efe Ovuakporie, said universities will receive the largest share—₦28.5 billion, or roughly 73% of the total allocation.
She said polytechnics will receive ₦5.8 billion, while colleges of education will receive ₦4.7 billion.
Ovuakporie said the move is part of an effort to close long-running infrastructure gaps and improve teaching conditions across the country’s tertiary institutions.
She said the money is intended to enable institutions to begin or continue approved projects targeting critical infrastructure and other identified needs.
The disbursement, she said, is also intended to support measures agreed under a memorandum of understanding between the government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The fund has long been central to negotiations between the government and ASUU, which has pressed for investment in dilapidated lecture halls, laboratories, libraries and other facilities across public higher institutions.
According to the statement, effective coordination among agencies and beneficiary institutions will be essential to ensuring that the funds produce visible improvements in educational infrastructure.
Ovuakporie said members of the public seeking information on the list of beneficiaries and their individual allocations are advised to visit the ministry’s website, www.finance.gov.ng.
