The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Works Minister David Umahi after a field inspection of federal road projects in Cross River State and along the Benue–Cross River corridor, adding a student-led imprimatur to the administration’s infrastructure agenda.
The association said its delegation assessed the quality and pace of work on several projects, including a section of the Calabar Coastal Highway and roads linking Benue and Cross River states.
It subsequently passed votes of confidence in both Tinubu and Umahi.
The delegation, led by NANS Senate President Ibeabuchi Moses Onyia, included national officers, zonal leaders, state executives and campus representatives.
It inspected the Alesi–Ugep (Iyamoyung–Ugep) road in Cross River State, Sections 3A and 3B of the Calabar Coastal Highway from Chainage 0+000 to 65+000, and the Adikpo–Ajio–Teshe–Ada–Kyogen–Obudu Road connecting Benue and Cross River states.
Onyia said the team found the work to be of a commendable standard, citing disciplined site crews and technical competence.
He described the Calabar Coastal Highway as especially notable for its scale and ambition.
The student leader said completed roads would cut travel times, connect border communities, open farmlands and markets, and reduce accidents and the daily hardship faced by road users.
The ministry has similarly positioned the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway as an economic corridor spanning eight coastal states.
Onyia also praised the Federal Ministry of Works for maintaining quality and professionalism in project execution, and commended Umahi’s hands-on supervision for the progress observed.
Speaking for Nigerian students, Onyia declared a vote of confidence in Umahi and extended the endorsement to Tinubu, citing the president’s commitment to rebuilding infrastructure and expanding access to trade, investment and tourism.
The endorsement comes as NANS continues a nationwide review of federal road projects, an exercise the Works Ministry has welcomed as independent scrutiny of its construction program.
