The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has ordered the razing of an illegal settlement he said had become a refuge for criminals, in a drive to guarantee security in and around the nation’s capital  city.

The Minister directed the FCT Department of Development Control to demolish the site known as Ruga, located near Karmajiji in the Kukwaba district, after leading security officials to the encampment on Friday.

The visit followed a meeting of the FCT Security Committee, Minister Wike said.

“Intelligence reports indicate suspected criminals often retreat to that location after carrying out attacks in parts of the FCT,” Wike told officials, according to a statement from his office.

He ordered the FCT police commissioner, Ahmed Sanusi, to coordinate with the development-control to carry out the demolition.

Minister Wike described his action as part of broader efforts to dismantle criminal enclaves and bolster public safety across the territory.

“Anyone found using such locations to aid criminal activities will face the full weight of the law,” he said, reiterating the administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property in the capital.

NewsQuest reports that there is however no immediate timeline for the demolition.
