President Bola Tinubu on Thursday won a robust regional endorsement for his 2027 re‑election campaign as a delegation of governors, elder statesmen and party stakeholders from the North‑East praised his decision to retain Vice President Kashim Shettima and promised to deliver the region for the ruling All Progressives Congress.

The group, led by Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babagana Kingibe, met with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa and pledged to mobilize grassroots support across the six States of the region.

The North East comprises of Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, Gombe, and Bauchi States.

In a remark on behalf of the delegation, Professor Zulum described the re‑nomination of Vice President Shettima as evidence of political maturity and a reward for loyalty.

He said “We are here for one overriding purpose: to show our appreciation and thank you most profoundly for the re‑nomination of an accomplished son of our region.”

The Borno State Governor explained that the move signaled continuity and strategic leadership.

He pledged that the North‑East would “massively deliver” the Tinubu–Shettima ticket in 2027.

The endorsement is an additional signal of  President Tinubu’s effort to consolidate backing in a region long battered by insurgency and economic dislocation.

The delegation cited federal investments in road construction, agriculture, education, and rehabilitation programmes for internally displaced persons as signs that the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda is beginning to take hold.

The group lauded specific federal projects, notably the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Maiduguri expressway, as tangible evidence of the Federal government’s commitment to rebuilding a region devastated by years of insurgency.

In his brief remarks, Kingibe, a veteran diplomat and former cabinet member, described the delegation as a cross‑section of respected regional voices who, though not all active politicians, retain influence with their constituencies.

“Our people trust us,” he said, noting the group’s role in explaining government policy and rallying public support.

President Tinubu who thanked the delegation for the visit, described the endorsement as both emotional and consequential, praising the region’s collaboration in security operations and infrastructure upgrades.

He reiterated his administration’s narrative of economic stabilization and reform and defended moves on pensions and other inherited liabilities.

“As a President nominated for a second term, I hold democracy, consistency, dedication and steadfastness very dearly,” Tinubu said.

“The economy is already stabilised,” he added, while urging continued federal‑state cooperation to defeat terrorism and banditry.

NewsQuest reports that the North‑East endorsement helps President Tinubu manage internal party dynamics and project unity ahead of the 2027 general election.

President Tinubu’s choice of Shettima and running is widely seen to be reinforcing regional alliances that could prove decisive in swing States during the election.
