President Bola Tinubu on Monday commissioned 10 newly completed and furnished staff quarters at the Nigerian Law School campus in Bwari, Abuja and approved the construction of additional 20 housing units to ease accommodation pressures at the institution.

A statement by the Deputy Director Press in the FCT Minister’s office Rabi Musa said President Tinubu who was represented at the ceremony by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume,  described the provision of staff accommodation as a strategic intervention under the Renewed Hope Agenda intended to strengthen the infrastructure of Nigeria’s premier legal training institution.

“A world-class legal system cannot be built upon dilapidated infrastructure,” the President said, adding that dignified housing for instructors and administrators is a national priority,” the statement noted.

He praised the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for expediting project delivery and for securing a Certificate of Occupancy for the Law School, noting that the associated fee was waived to correct a longstanding institutional anomaly.

The President noted his administration’s commitment to completing initiated projects and urged citizens to support the government’s development agenda.

At the event, FCT Minister Wike announced that President Tinubu had approved the construction of 20 additional staff housing units following a request from the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School for renovation of old accommodation.

The Minister said the approval followed concerns raised about the condition of existing staff quarters.

Minister Wike also reiterated that the Federal Government is funding two new 300-bed hostels for students at the Bwari campus and pledged to ensure timely completion.

The Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda, said the contract for the 10 staff bungalows was awarded to Austlinks Energy Services Limited.

Each unit is a fully furnished four-bedroom bungalow, and the scope includes paved car parks, continuous water supply, dedicated power infrastructure, and associated external works.

The units are sited in two clusters on the Bwari campus five on the northern side and five on the western end.

Dr. Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote, Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, described the intervention as timely and said it would help stem the outflow of academic and administrative staff seeking better living conditions abroad. Chief Emeka Ngige, SAN, chairman of the Council of Legal Education, commended the FCT Minister’s efforts.

A representative of the contractor, First Link Energy Services Limited, Engr. Innocent Omojiade, thanked the FCT Minister for the contract award and pledged to deliver ongoing projects within agreed timelines.

Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, lauded President Tinubu’s commitment to institutional renewal and thanked Minister Wike for his leadership on infrastructure development in the Federal Capital Territory.
