Tinubu reshuffles cabinet, sacks Finance, Housing Ministers

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday approved a targeted cabinet shake-up, removing Finance Minister Wale Edun and Housing Minister Ahmed Musa Dangiwa from his administration in a deliberate step to boost economic delivery.

A statement from Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume directed Edun, who also coordinated the economy, to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, his former minister of state.

Oyedele will assume the dual role of finance minister and economy coordinator. Ahmed Dangiwa, an architect, must cede the housing and urban development ministry to minister of state Muttaqha Rabe Darma, elevated as ministerial nominee.

The changes take effect by Thursday’s close of business, Akume’s statement said. “These adjustments aim to strengthen cohesion, synergy in governance, and more impactful economic outcomes for Nigerians under the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Akume explained, citing Tinubu’s authority under sections 147 and 148 of Nigeria’s 1999 constitution.

President Tinubu thanked the outgoing ministers for their service and signaled further tweaks ahead, assuring the Federal Executive Council that “the process of reinvigoration shall be continuous.”

The moves come as the country grapples with inflation above 30% and naira volatility, with Edun’s tenure marked by subsidy cuts and currency floats that fueled public unrest.
