President Bola Tinibu on Thursday declared that his administration is actively engaged in diplomatic talks worldwide, including with global leaders, and is committed to eradicating terrorism in Nigeria.
The President stated this shortly before the commencement of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
“The task ahead is immense. We are engaging the world diplomatically, and we assure all of you that we will defeat terrorism,” Tinubu said.
Tinubu’s remarks is coming again after US President Donald Trump issued a recent
strong threat directed at Nigeria, warning that American military was preparing for possible action to intervene in the county due to what he described as ‘the Nigerian government’s failure to protect Christians’ from Islamist militant groups.
The US President Trump who claimed that thousands of Christians have been killed accused radical Islamists of conducting a mass slaughter.
According to President Trump, if Nigeria does not take action, the US might deploy military forces “guns-a-blazing” and suspend all assistance to Nigeria, calling the country “disgraced.”
President Tinubu and several of his aides have firmly rejected the threats by the US President denying negligence towards Christian communities, and emphasizing Nigeria’s constitutional guarantees to protect citizens of all faiths and opposition to religious persecution.
