The United Nations Information Center (UNIC), has organised a capacity building workshop for journalists convering Nigeria’s seat of power, the presidential villa, on solutions and sustainability journalism.

UNIC said the training for members of the State House Correspondents, is part of the United Nations agenda to equip media practitioners with the skills and competence to promote development and preservation of society for the future.

The training with the theme, “Promoting Solutions- Oriented and Sustainability Journalism in a Modern Democracy,” was also supported by the Lagos State government.

Among resource persons who made presentations at the workshop were Professor Jide Jimoh of the Lagos State University, Director-General of the International Press Center, Lanre Arogundade, Andrea Cairola of the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, Kingsley Uranga, General Manager of Channels Academy, and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) Ambassador Ahmed Rufai who was represented by Wale Adekoya – Direcror Lagos Liaiso.

All of the resource persons emphasized the importance of journalists having the appropriate mixture of objectivity and development journalism at the back of their minds while carrying out their duties.

Chairman of the SHPC, Dr. Anule Emmanuel in a welcome remarks earlier, said the group remains a committed, responsible and is made of professional journalists, who believe strongly in Nigeria.

“We report from the State House with a high sense of nationalism and national security, hoping that Nigeria should work,” Anule said.

He therefore commended UNIC and the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu for making the training possible.
