We’ve guaranteed security for farmers in Niger – Governor Bago

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, has said that his government providing adequate security that now guarantees farmers to return to their farms. 

Bago stated this in an interview and with State House Correspondents after meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the presidential Villa, Abuja. 

He said the State was ready to match the national target to cultivate 500,000 hectares of arable lands for food security.

Niger is Nigeria’s largest state in land mass, stretching over 76,000 Km2 but much of its arable, ungoverned spaces, reports indicate have become breeding grounds for terrorist activities in recent years.

The Niger State hover or however explained that “a lot is being done” to ensure the security of farmers as they cultivate their lands, saying, “They are already back to the farms.”

“In Mr President’s New Year’s speech, you will have heard the emphasis on agriculture and the 500,000 hectares the government plans to farm in 2024.

Bago who is barely seven Minths in office said, “Niger State has provided itself as a pilot state for that project. We are also ambitious to match the federal government 500 for 500.”
