The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has unveiled its timetable for the 2027 general elections, scheduling presidential and National Assembly polls for 20 February.
The governorship and State Assembly elections will follow three weeks later on 6 March.
INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan announced the dates at a press conference in Abuja on Friday.
He confirmed the commission had completed its schedule despite ongoing delays in the National Assembly’s approval of an amended Electoral Act.
INEC had signalled as much on 4 February, stressing that while it had submitted its recommendations to the National Asemnly, certain activities might shift depending on the timing of the bill’s passage.
This comes after INEC, under Professor Mahmood Yakubu’s earlier leadership, locked in election dates for the next four decades to ease voter uncertainty and logistical challenges.
