Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, Ondo State’s secretary to the state government, resigned on March 30, 2026, to pursue the Central Senatorial District’s seat in next year’s general elections – a high-stakes pivot from bureaucratic power broker to national lawmaker.
The son of Afenifere leader Chief Reuben Fasoranti, whose influence spans Yorubaland, submitted his resignation to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
The Governor’s chief press secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, confirmed that the move clears the path for Dr. Fasoranti’s bid.
A veteran with over 30 years in public health, policy, and governance—including as retired Director of Abuja’s State House Medical Centre and initial chairman of the Ondo State Hospitals Management Board—Dr. Fasoranti pitches “compassion, discipline, and people-centric representation” to spur economic growth across Ondo West, Ondo East, Ifedore, Akure South, Akure North, and Idanre.
His slogan, “Fasoranti for the people, Fasoranti for progress,” leverages ties to elite medical networks, the All Progressives Congress (APC) machinery under Governor Aiyedatiwa, and his father’s pan-Yoruba clout.
Stakeholders already rate his odds strongly in the APC primary and general election, citing humanitarian efforts amid Nigeria’s volatile politics.
His father, Reuben Fasoranti, the leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political group Afenifere, wields significant historical and moral influence in Ondo State politics.
Dr. Fasoranti will no doubt also climb on the back of his father’s good and impactful legacy, which stems from decades of service, including as Finance Commissioner under the UPN government of Adekunle Ajasin from 1979-1983, where he advanced fiscal policies supporting free education and rural development.
Like his father, Pa Fasoranti who is widely seen as one man who will forever be remembered and his footprints in the sand of time largely because of his great interest in the Yorubas and Nigeria at heart, the potential ‘Senator’ is only preparing to fit into these shoes.
Dr. Fasoranti co-founded Medical Alliance for Africa in 2014 for preventive healthcare outreach, has led Medical Initiative for Africa since 2017 for aid to underserved communities, and has headed DoveMedivac since 2019 for medical evacuations.
Appointed SSG shortly after Governor Aiyedatiwa’s 2024 inauguration as Ondo’s seventh elected governor, he now seeks constituents’ support to amplify Ondo Central’s voice in Abuja.
The people of Southwest prioritize performance over partisanship. This is the style that those who know Dr. Fasoranti believe he would be bringing on board in the red chambers similar to what his father is known for- as a symbol of integrity and a leadership reference point.
