Governor of Imo State Hope Uzodimma has urged commercial transport operators across the states to reduce transport fares to reflect the cost savings from the Federal Government’s Compressed Natural Gas ( CNG) initiative, saying commuters should benefit from the cheaper alternative to petrol.

Uzodimma, who is the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, made the remarks after briefing President Bola Tinubu on national developments at the president’s residence in Lagos.

“Since the cost of transportation has been reduced by the introduction of CNG, they should now also reduce the fare they charge passengers,” Uzodimma said.

“That way, it becomes a win-win situation”, he added.

He said the Federal Government’s reform agenda had moved beyond implementation to ensuring that Nigerians received tangible benefits.

“The reform policy has moved from implementation to ensuring that the people of Nigeria get the dividends of the reform policy itself,” he said.

Uzodimma said state governors had taken direction from Tinubu’s recent national broadcast and would focus on making the reforms more effective for citizens.

The governors also plan to intensify public communication about the administration’s policies and achievements following the president’s return from working leave, he said.

The governor described his meeting with President Tinubu as “a quality conversation,” saying he had briefed the president on developments across the country and the governors’ activities during his absence.

Uzodimma also credited the administration’s reforms with improving Imo State’s finances.

When he took office in 2021, the state struggled to fund government operations after paying salaries, he said.

“Today, we pay salaries as we do and we have money to do all the achievements that we have recorded in the state,” he said.

The governors, Uzodimma said, had been tasked with ensuring that Nigerians experienced the reforms through visible and measurable improvements in their daily lives.
