The United States will begin a renewed drive for a ceasefire in Gaza today, the country’s national security adviser Jake Sullivan has said.
Sullivan told MSNBC that US President Joe Biden “intends to begin that work today by having his envoys engage with Turkey, Qatar, Egypt and other actors in the region”.
The move comes a day after US President Joe Biden announced a separate ceasefire between Israel and Lebanese armed group Hezbollah.
He said the US along with other nations would also push for a ceasefire in Gaza, coming alongside the renewed push.
NewsQuest reports that all of these initiatives follow the successful negotiations between Israel and Lebanon with Joe Biden emphasizing that Hamas must release hostages to facilitate peace and enable humanitarian aid to flow into Gaza, where civilians have suffered immensely due to the prolonged conflict.
