Governor Uba Sani has credited President Bola Tinubu with providing critical federal support that, he said, has accelerated a slate of transportation and infrastructure projects across Kaduna State.
Speaking at the ceremonial kickoff for 11 road projects in Zaria and Sabon Gari local governments, Governor Sani described the work as a joint undertaking between state and federal government.
He said Kaduna had been chosen to benefit from the federal light-rail initiative and that the proposed ₦1 trillion Kaduna Light Rail Project would begin within two months, with contractors already mobilized.
“The developmental projects in Kaduna are being delivered through collaboration between state and federal governments,” Governor Sani told assembled officials and residents.
He announced that a groundbreaking for the Mando–Birnin Gwari road would take place within a week after federal funds were released.
The Kaduna State Governor promised the 11 roads would be completed and commissioned within five months and cast the projects as part of an Urban Renewal and Rural Transformation Programme aimed at expanding economic opportunity.
“Roads are more than stretches of asphalt. They connect communities to opportunities, farmers to markets, businesses to customers, students to schools and patients to healthcare,” he said.
The Governor said his administration had initiated 150 road projects covering more than 1,355 kilometres, the bulk of which he described as already finished, and urged residents to continue supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He also called for the re-election of Tajudeen Abbas as Speaker of the House of Representatives and for backing of President Tinubu in future contests.
Speaker Abbas, who also spoke at the event, praised Tinubu’s commitment to Kaduna, citing upgrades in the education sector: the Federal College of Education, Zaria, was elevated to a Federal University of Education; a Federal University of Applied Sciences was established; and another federal institute was converted to university status.
Abbas added that President Tinubu was considering upgrading Kaduna Polytechnic to a Federal University of Technology—an approval that would bring Kaduna’s tally of Universities to five.
