Tinubu: Wike’s transformation of Abuja now template for national development

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday said that the series of infrastructure projects delivered in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under Minister Nyesome Wike serve as a template for broader economic transformation across the country.

The President said roads and bridge construction will catalyze investment and job creation nationwide.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the commissioning of newly completed Collector Road C01 and its accompanying bridge in the Institution and Research District in Abuja, President Tinubu described infrastructure as “the greatest enabler of economic prosperity.”

He linked improved transport links to expanded investment and local growth.

“When you build roads, you open up districts. When you open up districts, you invite investment.

And when investment comes, Nigeria grows,” the President said, adding that the modernization of Abuja “is a microcosm of the transformation we are bringing to the entire Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

NewsQuest reports that the project was carried out under emergency procurement and includes a link bridge, underground drainage and solar street lighting.

According to a statement by the Deputy Director of Press in the Minister’s office Rabi Musa, the construction generated “hundreds” of direct and indirect jobs for young people in the area.

President Tinubu described the road as evidence of a promise kept, saying the administration moved after complaints from the legal community about traffic gridlock and difficult access to the Nigeria Law School.

“We did not just talk about it. We approved it under emergency procurement. And today, just months later, here we are,” he said.

Minister of the FCT Nyesom Wike, who earlier led a day of commissioning exercises in the capital, thanked the President and Vice President Shettima  for their support and cited the removal of the FCT Administration from the Treasury Single Account as a key enabler of the territory’s spending autonomy.

Minister of State Dr. Mariya Mahmoud thanked the president for what she called “unwavering and massive support,” and urged residents to help protect the new facilities.

Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, Engineer Richard Yunana Dauda, said the road will provide a critical alternative route linking research and educational institutions and surrounding communities, in line with the FCT master plan.

The ceremony further shows President Tinubu administration’s emphasis on visible, capital projects as a measure of governance, and follows a broader national push to replicate Abuja-style upgrades in satellite towns and rural areas.
