President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday urged the Senate to screen and confirm Muttaqha Rabe Darma as Minister of Housing and Urban Development.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio read President Tinubu’s request on the floor of the red chamber, referring it to the Committee of the Whole for immediate consideration.
In a separate letter, the President requested approval for Lamido Abubakar Yuguda as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), forwarding the nomination to the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions.
The panel must report back within one week.
President Tinubu also sought confirmation of Benedict Umeno’s reappointment to the Code of Conduct Bureau, representing the South-East region.
The nomination went to the Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption, likewise with a one-week reporting deadline.
Darma, a mechanical engineering graduate of Bayero University in Kano, ran as the New Nigeria People’s Party’s deputy governorship candidate in 2023.
He was later dismissed by the party for backing the All Progressives Congress candidate (APC) Dikko Radda at an unauthorized meeting.
