The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of more than 3,800 senior officers, including two new deputy inspectors-general, 10 assistant inspectors-general and 17 commissioners of police, following successful examinations and interviews.

In a statement, Head of Protocol and Public Relations of the PSC Torty Njoku Kalu said the move is one of the force’s largest recent senior-rank reshuffles.

The commission elevated Assistant Inspectors-General (AIG) Olaolu Adegbite and Dankombo F. Morris to deputy inspector-general of police at its plenary meeting in Abuja, chaired by retired DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu, the statement said.

Adegbite heads INTERPOL’s National Central Bureau in Abuja and previously served as director of operations at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC); Morris leads Zone 4 Headquarters in Makurdi.

According to the statement, the commission also promoted 10 commissioners of police to assistant inspector-general, including Omosanyin Olusegun, Ogbodo Ugobueze, Ohagwu Felix Ndukwe, Taylor Lennox Olanrewaju, Regina Cosmas Udoette, Afolabi Wilfred Olutokunbo, Nwogoh Martin, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, Ibrahim D. Gotan and Danjuma I. Yahaya.

Similarly, 17 deputy commissioners were elevated to the rank of commissioner.

The bulk of the promotions occurred below the most senior ranks: 85 assistant commissioners became deputy commissioners; 49 chief superintendents became assistant commissioners; 245 superintendents became chief superintendents; and 498 deputy superintendents became superintendents, it read.

The commission also promoted 3,218 assistant superintendents to deputy superintendent, accounting for most of the more than 3,800 officers affected.

Among those elevated to chief superintendent was Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command.

Argungu congratulated the officers and urged them to treat the promotions as an incentive to improve performance, particularly in protecting lives and property and enforcing the law.

The statement said the promotions followed successful promotion examinations and oral interviews conducted by the commission.
