President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday urged residents and businesses in the Federal Capital Territory to settle taxes, ground rents and other statutory charges, linking higher compliance to continued infrastructure investment by the government in Abuja.
Speaking at the inauguration of a completed section of Arterial Road N5—connecting Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III in Abuja’s Dape district— President Tinubu, represented at the ceremony by Vice President Kashim Shettima, said government revenue is essential to sustaining projects that expand access to growing residential areas and to the Idu Industrial District.
He said “To the residents and business owners enjoying this transformation, I urge you to meet your obligations. Pay your taxes. Clear your land fees and ground rents.
“Your compliance gives the FCT Administration the strength to build more roads like this one.”
The President described the road as evidence of his administration’s emphasis on completing infrastructure projects rather than abandoning them.
He recalled a pledge made when an earlier section of the artery was commissioned in 2025, saying the government had returned to “close the circle.”
President Tinubu said the contract for the Dape section was awarded in October 2024 and completed within the stipulated timeline, calling the work an example of a new approach to public works.
He said the corridor will improve movement among Dape, Karmo, Gwarinpa, Kado, Mbora and Idu, and reduce logistics costs by providing a direct connection to the Idu Industrial District.
“That means lower logistics costs for businesses, new investment, and more jobs for our people,” he said.
The President also praised Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike for accelerating project delivery and for bringing “political will” and accountability to the territory’s development programme.
President Tinubu added that government funding should yield measurable results.
Minister Wike, while speaking at the event, said the pace and geographic reach of infrastructure delivery in the FCT had expanded under President Tinubu’s administration.
He noted that inaugurations tied to the president’s anniversaries had grown from nine days of commissioning in June 2024, to 19 days on the second anniversary, and to 31 days this year.
The Minister rejected complaints about compensation related to demolitions carried out for the project, saying that all eligible property owners had been paid.
The inauguration formed part of activities marking the third anniversary of President Tinubu’s administration.
