Nafiu Bala, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), rallied supporters Thursday and marched on the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission here, heightening tensions ahead of upcoming polls.

The large group arrived at INEC’s office in the capital amid frustrations over the electoral body’s preparations, according to witnesses.

NewsQuest reports that INEC has faced scrutiny for delays in voter registration and logistical glitches in recent cycles, fueling opposition demands for transparency.

Bala, a vocal ADC leader, has criticized the commission’s impartiality in past statements.

The incident indicates the deepening rifts between political factions as the country gears up for national elections.

Bala is laying claim to the leadership of the ADC and has been going against the David Mark-led group in court.

His protest comes a day after the Mark-led faction staged a similar march to the INEC office.
