Benue State Governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia on Saturday said that his vision was to place the State in a position where it is ranked one of the best in the country in terms of economy and the general welfare of the people.

The governor stated this  at a symposium to mark the 63rd Independence Day Anniversary of Nigeria, held at Government House, Makurdi:

“it is his desire for the state to be ranked among the best states in the country.,” Alia’s spokesman Tersoo Kula said in a statement.

Governor Alia while welcoming the various scholars and the participants at the event held in the New Banquet Hall at the Benue State Government House, Makurd, thanked them and the resource persons for coming to share ideas on how and what can be done to move the state and country forward.

According to the governor, although the state and country are facing challenging times, it is within the purview of both the government and the citizenry to contribute to the upliftment of the state and the Nation.

He charged all Benue people to see how they can contribute their quota to make State and Nigeria great.

There were three knowledge enriching paper presentations on the topics including, Pre-Independence struggles, contemporary Nigerian Realities and the Benue leadership experience presented by Professor Okpe Okpe, the Director, Centre for Leadership Studies, Federal University of Lafia.

The second paper was on the social economic development of Benue State: the journey ahead delivered by Professor Dr. Gisaor Vincent of the Federal University, Wukari, and avoiding pitfalls of the past: good governance anchored  on vision and core values by Professor Ukertor IMoti, Dean PostgraduateSchool of the Federal University of Abuja.
