The Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji on Monday, called for the smooth transition of leadership positions in the Africa Tax Administration Forum (ATAF).

Adedeji stated this while delivering his opening remarks at the ATAF Council Strategy meeting in Nigeria’s commercial city of Lagos.

ATAF serves as an African network that aims at improving tax systems in Africa through exchanges, knowledge dissemination, capacity development and active contribution to the regional and global tax agenda.

Speaking at the Lagos event, the FIRS chief executive said there is the need for a strong leadership in the organization and that the success of ATAF depends on the collective efforts and leadership of all members.

According to him, members must ensure that ATAF as a multilateral organization, showcases the best Africa has to offed from all regions of Africa – West, East, Southern, Central and Northern Africa which the ATAF Council membership is a good example.

A statement released on the FIRS Twitter handle now X, said, highlight of Adedeji’s remarks include;

📌Management of the Secretariat is also vital to the success of the Organization.

📌ATAF must prioritize the process of a smooth transition in the meeting as the term of the current Executive Secretary comes to an end in March 2025 when Mr. Logan Wort would have  served for 16 years of meritorious efforts.

📌Ensure the sustainability of the organization and uphold the tenets of ATAF founding agreement and rules and be committed to abiding by them in our decision-making processes.
