The Federal Government has announced plans to harmonise the 2027 secondary school certificate examinations, involving WAEC, NECO, NABTEB and NBAIS, with a target to release all results by August to fast-track admissions into tertiary institutions.

This was disclosed Wednesday by the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education Boriowo Folasade.

She said the decision followed a meeting convened by the Minister of State for Education Professor Suwaiba Ahmad, with heads and representatives of the various examination bodies in Abuja.

She added that the meeting focused on aligning examination schedules, minimising timetable clashes and ensuring the timely processing and release of results.

Folasade stated that the initiative was in concordance with the education reform agenda of the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, under the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI).

Under the plan, the National Examinations Council (NECO) will hold its Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) from April 1 to May 14, while the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) will conduct its West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) from May 11 to June 18.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is scheduled to hold the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination from March 15 to 25, with results expected that month.

National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) examinations will run from June 1 to July 5, and National Board for ArabicandIslamicStudies (NBAIS) examinations from June 10 to July 9.

Results for WAEC, NECO, NABTEB and NBAIS are expected in August, giving students enough time to pursue tertiary admissions in September.

The talks focused on avoiding timetable clashes, speeding up result processing and improving coordination with university admissions.

The ministry said the plan is part of the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative and is intended to make the examination and admissions process more efficient, accountable and accessible.
