Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Iormem Alia has donated three buses to branches of the Nigerian Bar Association in Makurdi, Gboko and Otukpo, expanding his administration’s support for the state’s justice sector.

The governor presented the vehicles shortly after inaugurating a remodeled and furnished Ministry of Justice complex at the state Judiciary Headquarters in Makurdi.

The upgraded facility is intended to improve working conditions for judicial officers and other professionals in the justice system, while supporting the administration of justice, according to the state government.

Alia also said his administration had reduced the number of local government areas severely affected by insecurity from 19 to three.

He said the government was not satisfied with the progress and would continue working to eliminate insecurity across the state.

Development cannot be sustained where citizens are unable to live and carry out their businesses in peace,” Alia said, stressing that protecting residents remained a central responsibility of the government.

The governor praised members of the judiciary for administering justice in accordance with the law and for protecting citizens’ rights.

He said a strong, independent judiciary was essential to a stable society and to public confidence in the rule of law.

Under his administration, the judiciary has received increased attention, including support for institutional independence and financial autonomy, the governor said.

He added that his government had worked to enable the judiciary to manage its resources and affairs more effectively.

The buses donated to the NBA branches are expected to improve mobility and help lawyers carry out their professional duties across the state.Yhe governor added that his administration’s development agenda extended beyond roads and other physical infrastructure to include strengthening public institutions, improving services and supporting professionals.

He assured the judiciary and the legal profession that the government would continue working to improve their welfare and operating conditions.
