President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his 25 years of uninterrupted service as a head of government.
The President in a letter highlighted Nigeria and India’s strategic partnership, and shared ambitions for a greater voice in global affairs.
The anniversary marks a quarter-century since Modi took office as Chief Minister of Gujarat on October 7, 2001.
He led the Indian State for more than 12 years before becoming Prime Minister in 2014.
“A quarter-century of unbroken leadership is a rare achievement in any democracy,” President Tinubu said in a statement.
He described Modi’s tenure as evidence of the enduring confidence Indians have placed in him.
President Tinubu credited Modi with advancing infrastructure, digital public services, financial inclusion and innovation.
He said those efforts had helped improve millions of lives and offered inspiration to countries across the Global South.
The message also highlights Nigeria’s interest in strengthening ties with India across trade, investment, energy and security.
President Tinubu recalled Modi’s state visit to Abuja in November 2024, when Nigeria awarded the Indian leader the title of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger.
He said the visit had given fresh momentum to cooperation in defence, health, education and technology, among other areas.
“Nigeria deeply values the strategic partnership between our two great nations,” Tinubu said.
He described Nigeria and India as fellow democracies committed to a fairer, more inclusive and more representative international order.
