Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike has declared that he would likely be the first target if President Bola Tinubu loses the 2027 election to either former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or Labour-backed candidate Peter Obi.

Speaking in a media interview, Minister Wike—an unlikely ally and supporter of President Tinubu despite his long affiliation with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said he understands the risks of his public support for the incumbent.

“I will be the first politician that I think they will come after. I will be the first politician. I know they will come for my head,” he said.

Wike said the possibility of political reprisals had not dented his commitment to the president’s re-election campaign.

“Each day I sleep, I am thinking about the President’s reelection. When I am eating, I think about the president’s reelection. Everything I am doing now is about the President’s re-election,”  he said.

The Minister also described sustained personal attacks over his stance.

“I don’t see where anybody in this country today has been called names the way my name has been,” he said, adding that criticism would not deter him.

“I am not bothered about people who say their [own] thing. My business is, like I said, I am going to support Mr President.”

NewsQuest reports that Minister Wike The comments reflect the deepening realignments in the country’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 election, as figures cross traditional party lines and campaign loyalties shift.
