First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has urged Muslim women to draw on faith and resilience to meet social and economic challenges, calling on them to reaffirm responsibilities to family and nation as she opened the 41st national conference of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN).

Represented by the wife of the Vice President Hajiya Nana Shettima at the three-day gathering in Abia State, Mrs. Tinubu described the conference theme, “Faith, Resilience and Responsibility: Muslim Women Responding to Challenges,” as a timely “call to action.”

Special Assistant to the President, Media and ICT office of the Vice President, she said faith, coupled with resilience and a sense of duty, equips women to sustain hope and contribute to social stability.

“For women, our faith strengthens us, gives us courage and keeps hope alive, even in the face of challenges,”

First Lady Tinubu said “Through faith, resilience and a strong sense of responsibility, we can continue to make meaningful contributions to our families, communities and our nation.”

Mrs. Tinubu commended FOMWAN for more than 40 years of work in education, health and community development.

She also urged members to lead by example, inculcate moral values in children and use the conference as a forum for exchanging ideas, forging partnerships and developing practical responses to local problems.

Abia State Governor Alex Otti, represented by his wife, described faith as providing a moral compass and resilience as a source of courage, while responsibility directs citizens toward purposeful action.

“In Abia we understand that religious diversity is not a weakness; it is part of the richness of our shared humanity,” Mrs. Priscilla Otti said, echoing the state government’s commitment to tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

FOMWAN’s national leader, Dr. Sumaye Fadimatu Hamza, outlined the organization’s four-decade record in education, women’s empowerment, humanitarian relief and peacebuilding.

She said the association’s work reflects generations of Muslim women committed to service.

The conference brought together delegates from across Nigeria to consider policies and community-level initiatives affecting women and families, and to propose practical measures intended to strengthen their role in national development.
