APC’s Oyebamiji meets Tinubu, urges Adeleke to restrain supporters against post‑election violence

The All Progressives Congress candidate in last month’s Osun State governorship race Bola Oyebamiji has urged Governor Ademola Adeleke to rein in supporters and prevent post-election violence.

Oyebamiji stated this while briefing State House Correspondents after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu.

He said President Tinubu had urged restraint and reminded political leaders that “governance is ultimately about the people,” a message the APC hopeful said should guide behaviour while legal and administrative disputes play out.

“We are still reviewing the books,” Oyebamiji told reporters.

“By the time we spread our sheet, we will be able to get back to the public on what our own opinion and what decisions we want to take. But the take‑home is that it should be calm.”

He warned that failure to curb unrest would harm ordinary residents of the southwestern state and appealed directly to Governor Adeleke to speak to his followers.

“Violence is against our people. It is not too good, and he needs to talk to them so that each and every one of us can be on the same page,” he said.

Oyebamiji also alleged attacks on APC members in the aftermath of the results announcement, saying four or five people in his home village of Ikire were assaulted and that the incidents had been reported to security agencies.

He further urged all stakeholders to “remain calm and allow the relevant processes to run their course,” adding that violence would only compound the hardships facing Osun residents.
