Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has ordered a 60% rise in monthly subventions to all state‑owned tertiary institutions and directed immediate implementation of the federal government’s agreement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, said the measures are aimed at strengthening institutional capacity and improving staff welfare across the state’s universities and colleges.

The increase, which takes effect this month, is intended to help institutions meet financial obligations, ensure timely salary payments and improve learning conditions for students and employees.

Adeniyan said the State will also adopt the terms of the FG‑ASUU pact in relevant state institutions, a step the statement described as addressing “long‑standing welfare concerns” and aligning the schools with national standards.

The Governor has instructed institutional management to use the additional funds “judiciously,” prioritizing staff welfare and academic excellence.

Governor Aiyedatiwa urged unions to reciprocate by maintaining industrial peace and refocusing on classroom delivery.

NewsQuest reports that the latest move is part of a broader effort by Governor  Aiyedatiwa to reposition Ondo as a regional hub for quality tertiary education and signaled continued fiscal backing for the sector.
