The African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday said it has tapped former Rivers State Governor and ex–Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi as the vice-presidential running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for the 2027 election.
National Publicity Secretary of the party Bolaji Abdullahi described the Atiku–Amaechi pairing as a “unity and rescue ticket.”
Abdullahi said Amaechi’s selection followed wide consultations and reflected his strong showing as runner-up in the party’s presidential primary and his record in public office.
Amaechi served as speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, was twice elected governor of Rivers State and later ran the federal transport ministry.
The ADC said those roles give him experience across legislative and executive branches that will complement Atiku, broaden the party’s national reach and present voters with an experienced alternative ahead of next year’s vote.
