Owners of commercial billboards across Benue State must identify themselves and submit documentation within 30 days, or risk government seizure of their assets, Director General of the States’ Signage and Advertisement Agency, Solomon Iorpev said in a statement.

The Director General said the directive  comes ahead of a stakeholders’ meeting in the second week of May 2026.

According to him, the move aligns with recent tax laws empowering the agency to regulate, document, and collect fees on all billboards and signage in the state.

Affected owners must provide details on billboard locations, dimensions, and total numbers under their control.

The agency warned against payments to unauthorized individuals or groups, noting that such transactions are invalid under Benue State House of Assembly legislation. Payers could face demands for repeat fees.

“Pursuant to the law enacted by the Benue State House of Assembly, any payment made to unauthorized persons or entities will be considered invalid, and the payer risks being required to pay again,” Iorpev added.

Noncompliance will trigger confiscation and conversion of billboards to State property.

NewsQuest reports that the move so aims to streamline revenue collection and curb illicit fees in Nigeria’s Middle Belt State, where outdoor advertising has proliferated amid urban growth.
