Loyalists of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike on Saturday took over control of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) national secretariat in Abuja, ending months of turmoil sealed by a court order and police intervention.

Nigeria Police unsealed the PDP’s Wadata Plaza headquarters and another office in Maitama, handing them over to National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed Takushara and National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyawu.

The move followed a March 9 Court of Appeal ruling that sided with the Minister Wike camp, voiding a rival November convention in Ibadan backed by Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed.

The court decision nullified actions by a splinter National Working Committee led by Tanimu Turaki, capping a crisis that erupted November 18 with clashes at the Abuja headquarters.

In a statement, the Mohammed-led committee, through the Publicity Secrtary Jungudo Mohammed, hailed police “professionalism and adherence to the rule of law” and warned against future disruptions.

“All individuals and groups are advised to conduct themselves within the bounds of the law,” it said, adding that security forces stand ready to act.

The group praised Minister Wike’s “guidance and commitment,” urging aggrieved members to unite.

NewsQuewy reports that the takeover signals a consolidation of power for Minister Wike’s allies within the nation’s main opposition party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
