Political pressure is mounting in Abia State for Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Dpeajer of the House of Representatives, to seek the governorship in 2027, as stakeholders from the influential Ngwa bloc rallied behind him at a recent All Progressives Congress (APC) event.

Leaders from Isiala Ngwa North and South local government areas urged Kalu to run during the launch of the Ikeoha Movement and the interest declaration by Chief Uzoma Ihuka for the Isiala Ngwa federal constituency House seat.

The Ngwa bloc, a powerhouse in state politics, positioned Kalu as its top choice for the Governor’s office.

Speakig at the event, Kalu praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration as a stabilizing force for the APC amid rivals’ infighting.

“This is just a fraction of what’s coming for Abia,” he said, highlighting federal gains under the ruling party.

The gathering drew defectors from the opposition Labour Party, who cited the APC’s “renewed hope” and tangible progress as reasons to switch. Kalu welcomed them, pledging inclusive governance and direct community engagement to bolster livelihoods.
