Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has rejected the idea that an end to the war could come through negotiations with the US and Israel.
“We are definitely not looking for a ceasefire,” the speaker wrote in a post on X. “We believe that the aggressor should be punched in the mouth so that it learns a lesson [and] will never think of attacking our beloved Iran again.”
Ghalibaf said Iran wanted to break the cycle of “war-negotiation-ceasefire and then war again”, a strategy it said Israel was using to assert its hegemony.
Meanwhile, the government has vowed to use powerful missiles and does not contemplate negotiations with the US in ending the war, that has pushed a global oil market turmoil – passing the psychological price point of $100 per barrel, and reaching almost $120 at its peak on Monday.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps rejects US claims that its missile programme has been destroyed, saying it is deploying projectiles in greater numbers, and with warheads weighing more than 1 tonne.
But the US President, Donald Trump threatens to hit Iran “20 times harder” if it stops oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, hours after saying the war could end “very soon”.
