President Bola Tinubu has tasked newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) with a “solemn charge” to confront the country’s escalating security threats, emphasising courage, integrity and constitutional fidelity.

“Your decoration today is not simply a conferrment of rank, but a solemn charge to serve Nigeria with courage, integrity and unwavering commitment to the Constitution,” Tinubu told acting IGP Disu during his decoration at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The President praised IGP Olatunji Disu for a proven record observed during his own tenure as Lagos State Governor.

President Tinubu called for strengthened discipline, enhanced inter-agency collaboration and restored public confidence in the force.

“Lead firmly but fairly, demand professionalism at every level and ensure that safety of lives and property remains our priority,” the President said,

While acknowledging the “daunting challenge” posed by banditry, terrorism and rampant criminality, the president expressed firm belief in IGP Disu’s leadership  capabilities, describing him as “a straightforward individual, committed and respected” with “a sufficient amount of discipline”.

He urged the new Police Chief ro draw lessons from his predecessor to “make it better than you met it”, adding: “I know you can do it.

“You have my full support as you advance the security pillars of my renewable agenda.”

NewsQuest reports that the country continues to face insecurity, with armed groups terrorising the North-West and North East, kidnappings disturbing parts of the nation’s capital Abuja, and urban crime straining some cities.

President Tinubu therefore, noted the incoming IGP’s prior involvement in strategic thinking and innovation, expressing confidence that “Nigeria will prevail” under his leadership.

President Tinubu also thanked the outgoing IGP for “dedication and service”, extending “the gratitude of the entire country”.

“Nigeria appreciates your contribution to maintaining law and order,” he said, praising his attributes of good leadership and commitment.

Our correspondent also reports that the appointment of IGP Disu comes amid public demands for police reform, following years of accusations of brutality, corruption and inefficiency.
