Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Saturday approved the appointment of Dr Peter Deshi as chairman Interim Management Board of the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) International Golf And Country Club, Abuja.

Dr. Deshi, a former captain of the IBB Golf Club,  former chairman of the FCT Golf Association, and President of the Nigeria Golf Federation, is an Accident and Orthopedic Surgeon with several years of experience.

He is a graduate of the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and lectured in the Department of Trauma and Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Deshi hails from Plateau State.

Other members of the interim management board are Barrister Yomi Oyelola who will serve as the Secretary with Otunba Gbenga Elegbeleye, Architect Nanwor Mamven, Mrs. Ekanem Ekwueme, Architect Arabi Bello, Lawan Aboki, Okey Nnaedozie, Fred Otobo and Julius Fadairo as members.

Minister Wike in a statement by his Senior Special Assistance on Public Communications and Social Media Lere Olayinka, said the appointment, members of the International Management Board are to assume duty with immediate effect.

“The FCT Minister congratulates the appointees and urges them to work assiduously for the repositioning of the IBB Golf Club.,” the statement added.

The IBB Golf Club has recently been embroiled in a leadership crisis marked by legal battles, government intervention, and internal disputes.

On April 26, 2025, the Department of State Security (DSS) and police operatives barricaded the club, forcing the indefinite postponement of its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and executive committee elections.

Another AGM scheduled for Saturday, April 29 2025 was also stopped following the closure of the premises by police authorities.

Stern-looking operatives of the DSS and the Nigerian Police barricaded the club and stopped the Annual General Meeting and the election of new members to pilot the affairs of the Executive Committee for the 2025-2026 years from holding.
