Benue SUBEB advocates menstrual hygiene, education

Executive Chairman of Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr Grace Adagba, has urged stakeholders in education to work towards ensurring that every child has the needed support to manage menstrual health hygiene.

Dr. Adagba stated this in Makurdi, at an advocacy campaign organized for 100 girls selected from ten schools to mark this year’s World Menstrual Hygiene Day.

A statement by the Information Officer Benue SUBEB, Akese Emmanuella, said, the SUBEB Boss, represented by the Board Secretary, Dr Joseph Jande, who presented menstrual kits to each of the students, said it was a shared responsibility of all stakeholders to support the girl child to overcome the stigma associated with menstruation.

She reiterated Governor Hyacinth Alia’s commitment in creating a supportive and inclusive environment through sharing accurate information in ensuring cultural shift from stigmatization to open dialogue for womanhood.

Director, Social Mobilization, SUBEB, Mrs Erdoo Sar, said the event was put together to educate and empower the students with accurate information to manage their menstrual health and boost their confidence in schools.

In a presentation on effective menstrual Hygiene practices, Head of Department, clinical psychology, Federal Medical Centre Makurdi, Dr Perpetual Chia, stressed the need for people to always have a sincere conversation on menstruation which is a natural phenomenon in every woman and must not be seen as a secret cult.
