Police in Akwa Ibom State imposed a ban on drone flights and fireworks and restricted access to several major routes in Uyo ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s working visit on Friday,
The measure is part of an expanded security operation for the presidential trip.
State Police Commissioner Baba Mohammed Azare announced the measures Thursday at police headquarters in Ikot Akpan Abia, saying they were intended to protect strategic sites, preserve public order and ensure the unimpeded movement of the presidential convoy.
The command prohibited the operation and flying of drones across Uyo metropolis for the duration of the visit, directing commercial operators and service providers to comply.
The Police also barred fireworks, knockouts and other explosive sound-producing devices in the state capital.
CP Azare said the restrictions were designed to prevent panic and eliminate distractions that could hinder security personnel responding to genuine threats.
Police said public access would be temporarily limited along Airport Road, Shelter Afrique Junction, Oron Road, Nung Oku Junction, Mbierebe Junction and the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium. Motorists were advised to use alternative routes and cooperate with security and traffic personnel deployed in the affected corridors.
The Commissioner acknowledged that the measures could inconvenience residents but described them as temporary and necessary for public safety.
He urged people to avoid restricted areas and report suspicious activity to police.
President Tinubu is expected to inaugurate infrastructure projects promoted by Governor Umo Eno’s administration under its ARISE Agenda, spanning aviation, roads, tourism, health care, land administration and security.
The slate includes an international terminal building and airport hospital at Victor Attah International Airport, an Aviation Village, the ARISE Palm Resort, the 14.5-kilometer Nsit Atai–Okobo Road, Ring Road 3, a command-and-control center and the AkwaGIS building.
The airport investments is seen as central to Akwa Ibom’s effort to expand international aviation, tourism and investment.
The road projects are intended to improve connectivity around Uyo, while the command center is designed to strengthen security surveillance and coordination.
Governor Eno has declared Friday a work-free day to enable residents, particularly civil servants, to participate in the president’s reception.
