Olujuwon Obasanjo, son of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has joined the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement as special adviser on political affairs, adding his name to President Bola Tinubu’s effort to secure a second term in 2027.
The younger Obasanjo announced his support during a visit to the movement’s Abuja headquarters, where National Coordinator Sunday Adekanbi received him and led him on a tour of its operations.
He described the appointment as “an honour and privilege” and said he would help mobilize support for President Tinubu’s re-election.
NewsQuest reports that the move places younger Obasanjo at odds – at least politically with his father, a former president who has been a prominent critic of President Tinubu.
His elder sister, Iyabo Obasanjo, is seeking a Senate seat on the platform of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.
Younger Obasanjo sought to describe the divergence as unremarkable.
He said his family permits members to pursue independent political interests “without animosity,” and recalled attending meetings with his father, the late President Muhammadu Buhari and President Tinubu during the formation of the All Progressives Congress.
He said he has belonged to the APC since 2014.
In remarks that echoed the administration’s messaging, younger Obasanjo said President Tinubu had “started on a good note” and urged Nigerians, particularly young people to back the continuation of his reforms.
He cited salary payments, infrastructure development and investment opportunities as areas of progress that should be protected.
“Continued support for the President would enable his administration to build on its achievements and deliver more for Nigerians,” he said.
Mr. Adekanbi welcomed the appointment, calling younger Obasanjo an experienced political figure whose grasp of leadership, governance and grassroots mobilization would strengthen the movement ahead of the 2027 elections.
The group said it expects him to help expand its political and organizational reach nationwide.
The PBAT Door-to-Door Movement is focused on community-level mobilization and promotion of the Tinubu administration’s policies, an increasingly visible part of the president’s early re-election machinery.
