President Bola Tinubu on Saturday praised the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) presidential primaries, calling the nationwide exercise a demonstration of “internal democracy” and commending party officials for orderly conduct ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking after voting with First Lady Oluremi Tinubu at Ward L2 in Ikoyi, President Tinubu said the process — conducted simultaneously across the country — was “peaceful, well‑organized and in line with democratic principles.”

He emphasized that the grassroots nature of the voting gave every party member a right to participate.

“This is politics, grassroots politics, where every member of the party has a right to participate and be involved,” the President said.

“It’s to ensure that we have an internal democracy and it’s peaceful and well‑organized.”

Mr. Tinubu singled out APC governors for their role in overseeing the exercise in their states, saying activities from ward congresses through delegate accreditation and validation “had met democratic expectations.”

“Today, I am very satisfied, very, very satisfied that these governors have done well in their various states,” he said, noting the thoroughness of member registration and certification procedures.

He also thanked supporters who turned out in large numbers, saying their enthusiasm was motivating. “I’m just excited. They challenge me more,” he added.

NewsQuest reports that the party’s primary took place nationwide on Saturday as part of preparations for the 2027 elections.
