President Bola Tinubu will return to the country at the weekend after extending his working vacation by a few days, the presidency has said.
The President departed Nigeria on August 30 for London, where he began the working vacation.
After spending a week in the United Kingdom, he travelled to Paris, France, where he met with French President Emmanuel Macron and businessman Vincent Bolloré, whose media interests include Canal+, Multi Choice and the Universal Music Group.
Special Adviser on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga to the President in a statement said throughout the vacation, Tinubu has remained in regular contact with officials at home and continued to direct the affairs of government.
Among other decisions, he ordered the establishment of an independent panel to investigate the deaths of 37 illegal miners in Minna following their detention by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
The President also delegated Vice President Kashim Shettima to represent him at several official engagements.
Although Vice President Shettima departed Abuja on October 20 for New York to attend the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, who has also represented the President at official events, will continue in that role.
On the political front, the Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abubakar Yari, has been leading other senior party leaders in consultations with prominent traditional rulers across the country, the statement said.
Onanuga has described as irresponsible the baseless insinuations by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and a United States-based lobbying firm led by a convicted felon concerning President Tinubu’s absence from the UN General Assembly.
