President Bola Tinubu on Saturday argued that democracy cannot be propped up by “borrowed platforms” or speculation, framing the system’s resilience as a product of civic participation, durable institutions and organized party structures.
Speaking after taking part in the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) presidential direct primary in his Ikoyi ward in Lagos, alongside First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the President sought to contrast his party’s approach with what he described as politics driven by grievance.
“Democracy is not sustained by noise, speculation, or borrowed platforms,” President Tinubu said in a statement.
“It is sustained by citizens who show up, party members who believe, institutions that endure, the grassroots, and a political family rooted in the people.”
The President said the APC remained “focused, organised and deeply grounded across Nigeria,” committed to strengthening democratic institutions and delivering governance through what he called “structure, service, and the work of nation-building.”
He added that his administration would continue efforts to “renew hope” and build a stronger nation.
NewsQuest reports that President Tinubu’s remarks come as Nigeria approaches a period of heightened political activity, with parties mobilizing ahead of national contests and seeking to consolidate grassroots support amid economic and security challenges.
