President Bola Tinubu has dispatched Vice President Kashim Shettima to lead Nigeria’s delegation to the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, United States.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha in a statement said the high-level delegation will include Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, cabinet ministers and other senior government officials.
He said the General Debate is scheduled for September 22–28 under the theme “Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all”.
Nkwocha said Vice President Shettima is expected to deliver Nigeria’s national statement, setting out the country’s priorities on issues including economic development, peace and security, international cooperation and global challenges affecting Africa.
He will also attend high-level meetings on the right to development, climate action and other issues of strategic importance to Nigeria and the continent, he added.
He said the vice president is expected to attend the traditional reception for heads of delegation and hold bilateral meetings with foreign leaders, international organizations and development partners.
The meetings, he stated, are intended to support President Tinubu’s economic-diplomacy agenda, strengthen strategic partnerships and advance Nigeria’s position on reforming the global financial architecture, sustainable development, climate finance and multilateral cooperation.
Vice President Shettima is scheduled to return to Nigeria at the completion of his engagements in New York, Nkwocha said.
