Minister of Education Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa has approved the appointment of veteran broadcast journalist Ikharo Attah as Special Adviser on media and communication.

The appointment is contained in a letter dated April 28, and priorities to enhance public engagement, boosting transparency and sharpening the messaging around education-sector reforms.

In a statement Monday, Lanre Lamina, Special Adviser on Strategy and implementation to the Minister said Attah, a 20-year media industry veteran, will lead the Minister’s media agenda.

His portfolio includes handling media relations, public communications and digital outreach, while ensuring consistent messaging across platforms.

The statement said he will also craft high-level strategies and manage crisis communications to protect the ministry’s image.

Attah launched his career at DBN Television and now serves as Manager of news and current affairs at Independent Television.

Beyond journalism, he chaired the Federal Capital Territory’s task force on traffic decongestion in 2019 and on Covid-19 protocol enforcement in 2020.

In November 2021, he became senior special assistant for monitoring, inspection and enforcement in the FCT administration.

NewsQuest reports that Attah is currently covers the office of the President and the Presidential Villa as member of the State House Press Corps (SHPC).

He is married with children.
