Suspected bandits have reportedly abducted several Islamic clerics following a prayer session at the residence of Senator Abdul’aziz Yari in Zamfara State, according to Bakatsine, a popular crisis reporter who monitors insecurity in the northwest.

Senator Yari was recently appointed as Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council for President Bola Tinubu re-election bid for the 2027 election.

The incident occurred in Talata Mafara Local Government Area of the stare after more than 2,000 Islamic scholars and Imams assembled at the Senator’s home for special prayers ahead of the 2027 general elections, the reporter said in a post on X on Saturday evening.

The named clerics reportedly abducted, according to
Bakatsine, are identified as: Imam Yahuza, the First Jumma’at Imam in Dogon Madacci, Magawata Abdullahi, the Second Jumma’at Imam in Dogon Madacci, Malam Shehu Dakko, Imam Bala Fagon, and Na’ibi Tasi’u of Tungar Nagudai.

He said the clerics had travelled from communities in Bakura and Talata Mafara to attend the gathering.

The prayer session included supplications for peace, national unity, and the success of President Bola Tinubu and the All Progresses Congress [APC] ahead of the 2027 polls, Bakatsine reported.

He described the abduction as particularly alarming because it occurred at the residence of a prominent political figure, raising questions about the safety of ordinary citizens in Zamfara, where bandit attacks and kidnappings have persisted.

“If people can be abducted while attending a gathering at the residence of a prominent political figure, then where exactly are ordinary citizens supposed to feel safe?” Bakatsine wrote.

At the time of this report, there is no immediate, official statement from the police or any other security agencies confirming the abductions.
