The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu has pledged to expand collaboration with a leading US defence University, emphasising professional education as key to tackling the nation’s security threats.
General Shaibu stated this on Friday when he hosted a delegation from the US Defense Security Cooperation University (DSCU) in Abuja.
According to a statement by the Acting Director of Public Relations Appolonia Anele,
the Army chief reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to DSCU courses on defence management, logistics and institutional capacity-building.
“Professional military education is a cornerstone in building a modern and adaptive fighting force,” General Shaibu said, highlighting its role in sharpening strategic thinking and preparing troops for complex operations.
The DSCU partnership aims to enhance governance, logistics and policy development, with retired Major General Miguel Casteyanoss telling the COAS that the programmes foster sustainable military capabilities.
Initiatives include support for material readiness, reporting systems and lifecycle management.
NewsQuest reports that such ties reflect growing US-Nigeria defence cooperation amid regional insurgencies and instability.
