Atiku’s son backs Tinubu, vows to deliver Adamawa in 2027

Abba Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, said Friday that he would work to deliver Adamawa State to President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria’s 2027 general election, setting himself against his father’s own presidential bid.

Abubakar, founder and chairman of the Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation, made the pledge at the APC’s national secretariat, where he formally unveiled the pro-Tinubu political group and launched a subsidized transportation program in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The declaration places the younger Abubakar in direct opposition to his father, the African Democratic Congress’s (ADC) 2027 presidential candidate and a longtime figure in Adamawa politics.

Asked whether his organization could win the state for the APC, he replied: “Yes, yes, yes. We are going to deliver to Adamawa State.”

He described his support for Tinubu as a matter of independent conviction rather than family loyalty.

“Political conviction is a matter of personal judgment, conscience, and the freedom of every individual to make independent choices,” Abubakar said.

The organization plans to build grassroots structures across Nigeria and organize what it calls a two-million-person march across the country’s six geopolitical zones, beginning in Abuja, he said.

It also intends to work with Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike to mobilize support in Abuja and Rivers State.

As an initial show of practical support, HBTO introduced ten luxury buses to provide subsidized urban transit in the capital, with plans to expand the fleet to five or six buses per state.

Abubakar said the initiative was intended to ease commuting costs and complement the president’s reform agenda.

Abubakar praised the administration’s economic and social programs, citing the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), infrastructure spending, higher statutory allocations to states, and transportation support schemes.

He said his earlier support for his father was based on his record, but that he now believed Tinubu’s policies better served Nigerians.

“I don’t think I am antagonising him,” he said of his father. “I simply believe in the current government’s policies and the reforms taking place.”
