Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has assured President Bola Tinubu that northern Nigeria would back his bid for a second term in the 2027 elections, positioning Kano as a key political base for the president’s campaign.
Yusuf made the pledge on Saturday at the opening of the Arewa for Asiwaju (A4A) campaign office in Abuja.
The group is meant to organize support for Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima across Nigeria’s 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory.
“I can guarantee the President that the North will support his second-term ambition,” Yusuf said.
Kano, which has the largest number of registered voters in northern Nigeria, is expected to play an important role in the campaign.
The governor said the state would lead efforts to deliver a large turnout for Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress ( APC).
“Kano, as the state with the highest number of votes in Northern Nigeria, would, in sha Allah, lead all Nigerian states to secure victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with a massive turnout in favour of the APC,” Yusuf said.
The governor’s statement was issued by Sunusi Tofa, Director-General of Media and Publicity at the Kano Government House.
He said the A4A movement would coordinate political outreach and voter mobilization before the elections.
Speaking at the event, Vice President Kashim Shettima said political support must be matched with good governance and results that improve daily life.
“We acknowledge the economic challenges facing citizens and stress the need for the administration to respond to their concerns while prioritising security, education, poverty reduction and economic opportunities,” Shettima said.
Former Defense Minister Badaru Abubakar will serve as National Coordinator of the movement, which seeks to build support for the president’s re-election campaign across the region.
