Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has said the 2027 presidential election in Abuja is effectively settled in favor of President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), crediting a surge in road construction and other infrastructure as the decisive factor.
Speaking while inspecting major road corridors, including the long-delayed Apo-Karshi route and the Gwarinpa-Kubwa axis, Wike framed the administration’s delivery record as the central pitch to voters.
He argued that the Renewed Hope Agenda has moved beyond rhetoric to “verifiable facts,” pointing to projects that directly affect daily commutes and commercial activity in the capital’s urban and satellite towns.
“If good governance is the barometer to measure whether a government has succeeded or not, then we have nothing to fear,” he said, adding that he could “sleep with my two eyes closed” that the APC would carry the FCT.
The Minister expressed satisfaction with contractors’ progress and provided near-term completion targets: the Apo-Karshi Road is expected to be handed over in November, with the Gwarinpa-Kubwa corridor to follow in December.
He noted that the Apo-Karshi project, first awarded in 2010 and stalled for years, was re-awarded after the previous contract was revoked, and that work has accelerated since.
“We promised 10 projects before elections, but from what we are seeing, we are delivering far more,” Wike said, describing the upcoming completions as holiday-season gifts to residents.
Wike used the occasion to challenge opposition parties seeking footholds in the capital, saying voters would no longer be swayed by “stories” without a performance record.
He urged rivals to present concrete achievements rather than rely on what he characterized as empty promises, insisting that FCT residents can distinguish between effective leadership and non-performance.
Addressing controversy over recent demolitions in Abuja’s Central Business District, the minister said the FCT Administration would not compromise enforcement of the Abuja Master Plan or yield to emotional appeals from “illegal” developers.
He rejected claims that occupiers received no prior notice, stating that quit notices had been issued more than six months earlier.
The remarks underscore the administration’s bet that visible infrastructure delivery, and strict planning enforcement will define the political narrative in the FCT ahead of 2027.
